Helen Sung – Piano David Craig – Bass Cory Cox – Drums Helen Sung is an acclaimed pianist and composer from Houston, Texas. Classically trained in piano and violin, she attended Houston’s High School for the Performing & Visual Arts and the University of Texas at Austin before discovering jazz—a revelation that led her to earn a degree from the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Performance and win the Kennedy Center’s Mary Lou Williams Jazz Piano Competition. Now based in New York City, Helen has performed and recorded with luminaries such as Clark Terry, Wayne Shorter, Ron Carter, Wynton Marsalis, Regina Carter, Cécile McLorin Salvant, and Terri Lyne Carrington. Her ensemble has appeared at major festivals and venues including Newport, Monterey, SFJAZZ, Disney Hall, and Carnegie Hall, as well as international stages such as the London Jazz Festival, Blue Note Beijing, and the Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival. Her acclaimed recordings include Anthem for a New Day and Sung With Words, a collaboration with poet Dana Gioia. A 2020 NYC Women’s Fund recipient for her Quartet² project, Helen continues to bridge jazz and chamber music.
