Join us for a live taping and listening-room concert for the Monks Jazz Showcase: Night One! Featuring performances lead by Juan San Miguel, Juliana Silveira, and Sam Howden's Research Group. 6:30 PM • Juan San Miguel 8:00 PM • Juliana Silveira 9:30 PM • Sam Howden's Research Group Juan San Miguel | Juan San Miguel is a multi-instrumentalist from San Antonio, Texas, and a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. He began his musical journey at the age of six on the piano before picking up the saxophone at eleven. In addition to his studies, Juan has spent the past few years performing regularly as both a bandleader and sideman in the Austin and San Antonio areas. His versatile repertoire spans genres such as jazz, pop, salsa, and mariachi. Juan has performed nationwide and internationally. Juliana Silveira | Juliana Silveira is a Brazilian pianist and composer who graduated from Santa Marcelina University in São Paulo, Brazil. During her time in São Paulo, she was an active performer across a wide range of musical styles, from playing in big bands and accompanying vocalists to giving solo piano concerts on some of the city’s most prominent stages. In 2017, she relocated to Austin, Texas, where she continues to work as a piano educator while performing jazz and Brazilian music throughout the city. Juliana has shared the stage with notable Austin musicians, including Grammy Award winner Jose Galeano and singer Susanna Sharpe. In 2023, she earned her master’s degree in Jazz Piano Performance from the University of Texas at Austin. Sam Howden | Sam Howden is a multi-instrumentalist, music producer, and educator based in Austin, Texas. Known for his recording work with the acclaimed wind collective “Soul Food Horns” under the alias “Howden,” Sam’s lyrical compositions have reached millions of listeners worldwide over the past five years. On stage, he has joined Jaron Marshall (of the Black Pumas) and his jazz collective, while also performing his own original music with his versatile band, “Sam Howden’s Research Group.” Sam continues to push the boundaries of contemporary music and improvisation. Please Note: This is a live-taping, so we'll be enforcing a whisper-policy! Cold bottles of still and sparkling water will be available for purchase, but this event is BYOB. Ice will be available if needed, wine keys and 9oz cups provided! 22 free parking spaces onsite are first-come-first-serve.
