Red Young is a Texas-born pianist, organist, vocalist, arranger, producer, and bandleader whose career spans more than five decades. A child prodigy who began playing piano at age three, Young developed a deep musical foundation rooted in jazz, blues, classical, and American roots music before launching a professional career that has taken him around the world.
Over the years, he has toured, recorded, and performed with an extraordinary range of artists including Linda Ronstadt, Eric Burdon, Dolly Parton, Joan Armatrading, Sonny & Cher, Lloyd Price, Marcia Ball, and many others. His work can be heard on hundreds of recordings as well as television and film productions, including Everybody Loves Raymond, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and In the Line of Fire.
As a bandleader, Young is known for projects including Red & The Red Hots, Brother Red, and Red Young & His Hot Horns, blending jazz, blues, soul, swing, and New Orleans-inspired grooves into a distinctive sound. Whether behind a Hammond B-3 organ, at the piano, or leading a horn-driven ensemble, his performances are celebrated for their virtuosity, spontaneity, and infectious energy.
Now based in Austin, Red remains one of the region’s most respected musicians, performing regularly throughout Texas and beyond while continuing to record, arrange, and collaborate with artists across genres. In 2018, he was inducted into the Austin Jazz Society Hall of Fame in recognition of his lasting contributions to the music community.
